By Geoff Fox, Tribune StaffLAND O’ LAKES — The 7-Eleven convenience store at 23434 State Road 54 is one of 31 locations in Florida that were recently put up for sale.
A 7-Eleven, Inc. executive said in a news release that the store is not performing badly, but “simply (does) not fit 7-Eleven’s current business model.”
“All of these stores have solid merchandise sales and should provide good opportunities for the right buyers,” said Robbie Radant, 7-Eleven vice president of mergers and acquisitions.
The S.R. 54 convenience store and gas station opened in July 1987.
Its building is just over 3,100 square feet, and the lot on the southeast corner of S.R. 54 and Livingston Avenue is 30,000 square feet, according to information from NRC Realty & Capital Advisors, a Chicago firm hired to coordinate the sale.
Margaret Chabris, director of corporate communications for 7-Eleven, Inc., characterized the chain as “a growth company.”
“We mostly open and sometimes close stores as a part of our business,” she said in an email, adding that the company has about 8,000 stores in the United States.
Asked if a new RaceTrac store that opened across Livingston Avenue from the Land O’ Lakes location had anything to do with the store’s closure, Chabris said that 7-Eleven officials “don’t publicly discuss the competition.”
With 52,800 locations in 16 countries, 7-Eleven stores generated more than $84.5 billion in sales last year, the company said.
The Land O’ Lakes location is one of 78 gas stations or convenience stores up for sale across the country.
